Where did we stay to sleep on Paradise Island?
We stayed at the Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas on Paradise Island. It’s full of “all-inclusive activities for adults and those with families. For me the rapid River was a favorite and
the adults only pool is a must! Be sure to book a room at “The Cove” if you’re single or with a spouse. It’s the least crowded with families.
Other things to mention about Atlantis… They give you water bottles at Atlantis a bag and flip flops… the flip flops only come in two sizes 8 or 11 so I couldn’t wear them the 8 was too small and 11 way too big. The bag came in handy. The water bottles too minus the fact that most of the water fountains and beach showers we found didn’t work so that didn’t help. Finding water was more challenging than expected.

- Currency Exchange: U.S. dollars are widely accepted, but it’s helpful to have some Bahamian dollars.
- Health and Safety:
- Tap water is generally safe to drink, but bottled water is recommended.

- Tipping: A 15% gratuity is often included in bills but check before tipping extra.

Things I learned:
- Local SIM card (Check your mobile phone plan) – wifi is free on the major properties, but we bought a SIM card at the Airport and put it in our “International Travel Phone” which we purchased unlocked on eBay before going.
- Bring your own sunscreen otherwise, it will set you back $30+ per bottle! I brought a few small travel-sized bottles of SPF I ordered on Amazon so they could go in my Carry-on Bag with no issues through TSA!
- Need to have a Phone cover and water proof case. Even better a Clear Waterproof Phone Pouch We ended up spending $20 on a two so that we could participate in the water activities plus be able to have our phone on us, take pics, vids, etc…
- Having a hat is a must if you don’t want to leave with a sunburn on your forehand, face or scalp! I used my Mission Cooling Hat to help beat the heat!
- Smokes are about $20 a pack! I don’t smoke cigarettes but if you or someone you’re traveling with does plan to pay a premium or be sure to bring a few packs of your own!
- Drinks mocktails or cocktails will set you back $10-20 per drink! They say to stop by the store and get your own before getting to your hotel, but I don’t drink alcohol so that wasn’t a big necessity. PS drinks are all sugar, especially the frozen ones so beware of the 300+ calories you might be consuming! But one thing we got for booking our stay at The Cove at The Atlantis was two free reusable bottles and they had stations all over the resort to refill them with filtered water (although many of them were not working) so we went to the restaurant and bars to get water when needed.
- Attractions I’d read up on and do your research as they were outrageously priced, ranging from a minimum of $100+++ up for almost every trip or tour. There are deals to be found, and it’s good to do some online research before waiting to book anything last minute! We mainly stayed at the Atlantis Resort as the activities were all included.
- Taxi drivers, beware what they’ll charge before you step inside (most only take cash) it was about $20 to go from The Atlantis on Paradise Island to downtown and over $25 to get back… with no meter or method — strange, I know! Plus, some taxi drivers only take cash or charge more to use a credit card! And the ones we came across were NOT very friendly and more ready to take advantage of you!
- Book an airport shuttle or transfer before hand (we had a prearrange limo service)
